The good news is, we can use food, eating habits, and supplements to help support and stimulate that natural response.

Psyllium is a soluble fibre supplement often used for regularity and cholesterol support. Because it forms a gel in the gut, it may help with fullness and post-meal blood sugar.
A common approach is to mix psyllium powder with plenty of water and take it before or with a meal. Start small to reduce digestive side effects. Psyllium can interfere with the absorption of some medications, so it is often taken at a different time of day.
Do not take psyllium dry. It needs enough fluid to move safely through the digestive tract.
Prebiotic fibre
Prebiotics are fibres that feed beneficial gut bacteria. Examples include inulin, partially hydrolyzed guar gum, and resistant starch.
